GUITAR STUFF
Tom uses a variety of guitars with differing pickup configurations. Guitar brands include Gibson, Fender, PRS, Music Man, Carvin/Keisel, and a couple of oddballs. He records directly into the board using a tube amp into a smart load box with a stereo line out. This keeps the noise down inside Tom's Garage.
Tom's primary amps are a PRS DGT 15 - a fine-sounding little 15-watt head - as well as an Egnater M4 4-preamp unit driving a Randall RT-2/50 power amp, and a Vox AC30. The load box is a Boss Waza TAE Core. Tom uses one of Boss's supplied Celestion speaker impulse response models, and to our ears it is indistinguishable from a live speaker. It also allows Tom to monitor new guitar tracks and DAW mixes from the same monitor source. Just like the grownups do.
During rehearsals Tom uses any number of effects but when tracking for a good mix, he records dry so that Ralph has a blank slate from which to work.
